It makes a VERY pleasant change that an industrial supplier will sell 'bits and pieces' to the general public. No minimum order, easy ordering online and competitive prices means that small amounts of smaller steel sections can be bought at a reasonable cost instead of being ripped off by the big DIY stores. I use small steel sections for vehicle modifications, and will be using the service again. Also the staff at Plymouth are helpful and pleasant.

I decided to embark on a relatively straight forward garden DIY project but on pricing / sizing it up I came across on little problem – where to buy a number of pieces of custom ‘cut to size’ 20mm rebar which I needed. I drew a line with local builders merchants / steel suppliers enquiries and then found Austen Knapman online. Seems no order is too small and I used their online form to order 5 custom cut rebar items. Very impressed all round from easy ordering, good communication right through to receipt when I received my order on the day following despatch. All this for what I deem to be a reasonable cost! Probably won’t use them again purely due to this being a ‘one off’ project but would have no hesitation in recommending them to others for custom requirements. The on-line description and ordering system for this item was excellent. Delivery was as arranged and although I was out the driver placed the item in a safe place and placed a note through the door. This together with an answering message left on my phone by a lady from the company was more than I would have expected. The tube was cut to the length I specified and was free from burrs. Overall the company provided excellent service.
I am slowly moving in to the 21st century and found the process of finding the website as easy as the ordering process with the cost of fuel it is so much easier to order this way than to send a driver to collect from say Colchester or Ipswich i am sure i will be ordering a lot more in the future for the two local dock companies i supply.Thanks Michael Hill
Well packed and delivered on time.
I needed 18 450mm lengths of 10mm rebar to secure shuttering for a hexaganol concrete base. Not a massive order but was shipped in a couple of days and saved me the hassle of hacksawing for a day. Great service. Will definitely use again.

I ordered several lengths of ERW steel tube to make wishbones for my new kit car. Even before I placed an order they had been more than helpful with advice and recommendations. The items were delivered next day, well packaged and in good condition. I did notice in particular that the ends of the packaging had been reinforced, something that is forgotten by so many other companies and can result in missing parts. I look forward to using the metal, and I would order from Austen Knapman again.

I cant praise highly enough the service I received when I ordered 2 pieces of mild steel channeling. It wasn't the biggest order they have ever completed and I expected to be shunted down the list of "orders to be completed" - wrong!
