After searching the internet for a single curtain rail over 3 metres i was frustrated to find that most suppliers would only supply this length in two pieces with a central support . This was no good for me as i wanted to pull both curtains open to the same side , hence a central support would obstruct . I then googled 'steel tubes' and discovered Austen Knapman - That was problem solved ! They cut me a 32mm steel tube to the exact size i needed, 3.34 m, and delivered it within a week . My curtains are medium weight so my only concern would be that the pole might bow in the centre , but it turns out the steel was strong enough and it's perfectly straight under their weight . So a satisfying job well done !
