Being slightly unorganised I forgot to order some steel for a balustrade I was building in greater Manchester. I phone Austen knapman on Monday morning with a plea that my product was there by Friday. The lady on the phone assured me it would be and sure enough it arrived on Wednesday morning. I bought this along with angle iron to repair the mount for a hand winch on an ifor Williams car transporter which had suffered corrosion damage. It was delivered promptly and well packaged. Excellent to migweld and now the mount is stronger than when new
Just great to be able to order small-quantity,high quality steel via the internet and have it delivered at minimal cost. I just do not have the time or the carrying facility to collect steel myself so as far as I am concerned, an online shop to buy steel is a real bonus. Website is good too. Easy to peruse and select the specific steel-stock required. Will definitely use again whenever I need steel for another project.
After trawling round local builders merchants, who were all unable or reluctant to supply my rebar in a small, pre-cut, quantity, and online retailers with exorbitant delivery charges, I stumbled across Austen Knapman: Their easy to use ordering system and reasonable delivery charges made them the obvious choice for my small build. As an added bonus, there was even a field in the order form where I could leave instructions for the delivery driver to place the items in a discrete location in the event that I was not at home. I would not hesitate to recommend Austen Knapman to other DIYers.
As usual, arrival very efficient and will use AK again... HOWEVER, the material I received was not 5mm thick, but measured at 3mm, so wasn't as strong as I had hoped (and was too late to change when I realised!
I had a vunerable external side window. I searched for security bars, but found the size I wanted to be £90.00 My husband said if we could obtain the steel bar he could drill the ends and fix. Found the bars including postage for £20.00. Now fxed and painted. Great service,fast and well packaged competative price.

Had a project that needed lots of mild steel box section of different widths cut to various non-standard short lengths. Went on the site on Sunday and ordered all the parts, arrived Wednesday, exactly as ordered, job done by Wedsnesday evening - brilliant. Reasonable cost too.

My order was a variety of cut lengths as I do not have the right tools to perform a number of cuts, and I needed close to zero tolerances on each cut. Every item was spot on, no further preparation required other than removing a few burrs from the inside of a couple of the smaller pipe cuts. Order was delivered a day early which meant my project could finish a day earlier. Very professional and easy to use web site, not only for selecting the right product but for budgeting purchase costs as well. Really happy with the service provided and delivery timeframes. I cant praise highly enough the service I received when I ordered 2 pieces of mild steel channeling. It wasn't the biggest order they have ever completed and I expected to be shunted down the list of "orders to be completed" - wrong! The channel arrived virtually within hours of the BUY button being pressed. Well packaged and dropped off, as I requested, in my absence. 100% satisfied. I'd recommend Austen Knapman to all.
